The Dive Shop cavern specialty class begins in Tucson and includes books, three classroom sessions, two pool sessions, one open water session, and one land session. When students are ready, the week-long certification trip to Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico—the world’s top cave diving area. To enroll in the Tucson portion of the class, you only need to be 18 years of age and Advanced Open Water diver certified. To go on and complete the Mexico portion of the class, you need to hold the night, buoyancy, and nitrox PADI specialties. The Cavern Specialty uses your regular recreational scuba gear, slightly modified for the cavern environment.
To finish the certification the trips are customized around the needs, budgets, desired amenities, and schedules of divers. (Certification in Florida also is an option.) The Tucson class schedule will be determined at the first class meeting around the needs of students.
