The Borderland Silent Auction

HIMALAYA BAY RECOVERY FUNDRAISER

Himalaya Bay was discovered in 1969 by David Rabb, founder of The Dive Shop. After The Dive Shop opened in 1982, camping/diving trips were organized and it has been in operation for the past 36 years. Himalaya Bay, a very unique experience, has been providing OW certification, diving and camping for thousands of Tucsonans and divers from around the United States.  Special trips, with support from staff from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, helped educate people on the local ecology, culture, and more.  School groups and boy scouts have benefited from Himalaya with discounted, affordable excursions to complete certifications and to learn about the oceans and the marine life.  In fact, there was a school group from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on the beach, completing a week long trip when the hurricane hit.  The Dive Shop has been a big supporter of the nonprofit Project AWARE with our annual Himalaya Bay Beach Clean ups.  The local farmers have benefited from our longstanding relationship with them and the donations from many of our customers.

On October 12th Himalaya Bay was hit by hurricane Sergio. The Dive Shop experienced a loss of great magnitude. The entire beach was drowned by this storm and recovery efforts only retrieved minimal amount of damaged equipment. The loss of all the boats, compressors, tables, chairs, and so much more puts the future of Himalaya dive trips in jeopardy.

Come enjoy an evening with fellow dive buddies and help The Dive Shop’s recovery effort.  David Rabb will be giving a presentation on the history of Himalaya Bay.  Food will be for sale by Food Groupie Cafe food truck.  Free beer tasting samplers will be available.  There will be a silent auction with proceeds going to the Recovery Fund.  Proceeds from all beer and t-shirt sales will also be for the Fund.  Of course all donations are welcome.  Auction closes at 8:30pm and winners will be announced starting at 9pm.
